Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 large firm tart apples (like Granny Smith)
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 box premade refrigerated pie crusts (2 count)
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (cut into small cubes)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C).
  2. Peel, core, and slice the apples into 1/8-inch slices.
  3. In a bowl, mix sliced apples with sugars, cornstarch, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg until evenly coated.
  4. Prepare the pie crust by unrolling one into a 9-inch pie dish.
  5. Add the apple mixture to the crust, spreading evenly. Sprinkle butter cubes over the top.
  6. Cover with the second crust; seal and crimp edges while cutting slits for steam to escape.
  7. Bake on a rimmed baking sheet at 450°F for 10 minutes, then reduce to 350°F (175°C) for another 50 minutes or until golden brown.
  8. Cool completely before slicing.
