  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 4 large eggs (room temperature)
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup softened butter
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 8 oz cream cheese (softened)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease three round cake pans or line with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, mix eggs, milk, and vanilla until smooth. Combine wet and dry ingredients gently until just mixed.
  4. Divide batter into three portions: mix melted chocolate into one; add pureed strawberries into another; leave the last portion plain.
  5. Bake each layer for 25-30 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool completely before frosting.
  6. Layer the cakes with cream cheese frosting in between and cover the entire cake with frosting.
