  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter (room temperature)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon pure maple syrup
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon maple extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. In a mixer bowl, beat together unsalted butter and maple sugar until combined. Add powdered sugar and mix until fluffy.
  2. Incorporate pure maple syrup and maple extract until well blended.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour, cornstarch, and salt. Gradually mix this into the wet ingredients to form dough.
  4. Chill the dough in plastic wrap for at least 30 minutes.
  5. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Roll out the chilled dough on a floured surface to 1/8 inch thick.
  6. Cut out shapes using a maple leaf cookie cutter and place them on parchment-lined cookie sheets.
  7. Bake for 8-10 minutes until lightly golden around the edges then cool on wire racks.
  8. For the cream filling, mix unsalted butter with powdered sugar, maple syrup, vanilla extract, and salt until smooth.
  9. Assemble by spreading cream on one cookie and topping it with another.
