Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp Kashmiri green tea (or other green tea)
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 star anise
  • 4 crushed cardamom pods
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1/4 tsp Himalayan salt
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • Sugar or honey to taste

Instructions

  1. Boil 2 cups of water in a saucepan and add the green tea. Simmer for about 5 minutes.
  2. Stir in the baking soda; the water will turn deep red. Boil for another 2 minutes.
  3. Add the star anise, crushed cardamom pods, and cinnamon stick; boil for another minute.
  4. Reduce heat and simmer for 20-30 minutes until the liquid reduces by half.
  5. Stir in the salt, then add the whole milk while bringing back to a low boil, stirring constantly until the pink color appears.
  6. Sweeten to taste and strain into cups.
