  • 1 cup (240 milliliters) lukewarm milk (105-115˚F (40-46˚C))
  • 3 1/2 cups (440 grams) all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup (67 grams) granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cardamom
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg
  • 4 tablespoons (60 grams) unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1 large egg (for topping)
  • 1 tablespoon milk (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast by sprinkling it into lukewarm milk and let it sit until frothy (5-10 minutes).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, cardamom, and salt.
  3. Stir in the yeast mixture, an egg, and melted butter until a loose dough forms.
  4. Knead on a floured surface until smooth; let rise in a greased bowl for about 1 hour until doubled.
  5. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Shape the dough into 12 equal pieces and place on lined baking sheets.
  6. Brush with egg wash; let rise for another 30 minutes.
  7. Bake for 15 minutes or until golden brown.
