  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ cup brewed coffee, cooled
  • ½ cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • ¼ cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • 2 tablespoons brewed coffee

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×9-inch baking pan.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. In another bowl, beat butter and egg until fluffy. Mix in coffee, buttermilk, and vanilla extract.
  3. Gradually combine dry ingredients with wet ingredients until smooth.
  4. Pour mixture into the prepared pan and bake for 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Allow cooling for about 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
