  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/4 teaspoons ground ginger
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 2 large eggs (room temperature)
  • 6 tablespoons softened butter
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar (for the filling)
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon (for the filling)
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger (for the filling)
  • 6 tablespoons softened butter (for the filling)
  • 4 tablespoons softened butter (for the frosting)
  • 6 oz. cream cheese (softened)
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons molasses (for the frosting)
  • 2 teaspoons ground ginger (for the frosting)
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon (for the frosting)
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract (for the frosting)
  • 2 cups powdered sugar (for the frosting)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: In a large bowl, combine flour, yeast, brown sugar, salt, and ground ginger. In another bowl, mix warm milk, eggs, softened butter, molasses, and vanilla extract. Gradually add this mixture to the dry ingredients to form a dough.
  2. Knead the Dough: Knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  3. Let It Rise: Place in a greased bowl and cover with a cloth. Allow it to rise until doubled in size (about one hour).
  4. Roll Out & Fill: Roll out on a floured surface into a rectangle. Spread softened butter over it and sprinkle with filling ingredients.
  5. Roll & Cut: Roll tightly from one end to another and slice into individual rolls.
  6. Bake & Frost: After letting them rise again for about 30 minutes on a baking sheet, bake at 350°F (175°C) until golden brown. Cool slightly before adding frosting.
