Warm up your chilly evenings with a delightful cup of Smoky Masala Chai. This aromatic beverage combines the robust flavors of smoky black tea and a medley of spices, creating a cozy drink that’s perfect for family gatherings or quiet nights in.

Ingredients

  • 2 tsp loose-leaf smoky black tea (or 2 tea bags)
  • 1 cup milk (dairy or non-dairy)
  • 45 black peppercorns
  • 3 whole cloves
  • 3 green cardamom pods
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • Optional: 1 star anise
  • 12 tablespoons brown sugar (to taste)

Instructions

  1. In a small pot, bring water to boil. Add black peppercorns, cloves, cardamom pods, and cinnamon stick (and star anise if using). Simmer for about 5 minutes.
  2. Add smoky black tea and steep for 3-4 minutes, adjusting steep time based on desired strength.
  3. Stir in milk and brown sugar; simmer on low heat for another 3-4 minutes while stirring occasionally.
  4. Remove from heat and strain into mugs before serving.
