Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 3/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 2 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup hot water
  • 2 cups unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 1 1/4 cups peanut butter
  • 9 cups powdered sugar
  • 67 tbsp water or milk
  • 6 Reese's, chopped
  • Pinch of salt
  • 6 oz semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 8 Reese's, cut in half
  • Crumble leftover Reese's on top

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease your cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, mix dry ingredients: flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together milk, vegetable oil, vanilla extract, and eggs. Combine with dry ingredients and add hot water until just mixed.
  4. Pour batter into pans and bake for about 22 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool in pans for 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks.
  5. To prepare the frosting, beat softened butter with peanut butter until smooth; gradually add powdered sugar and enough liquid to achieve desired consistency.
  6. Assemble the cake by spreading frosting between layers and covering the entire cake with it.
  7. To make ganache, heat heavy cream until just boiling then pour over chocolate chips. Let it sit for a minute before stirring until smooth. Drizzle over the frosted cake and decorate with halved Reese's and crumbled pieces.
