  • 1 lb (450g) smoked sausage (chicken, beef, or turkey)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 cup uncooked long-grain white rice
  • 2 1/4 cups chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup BBQ sauce
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp smoked paprika (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium-high heat. Brown the sausage slices for 2–3 minutes on each side. Remove from skillet.
  2. Reduce heat to medium and toast the rinsed rice in the same skillet for 1–2 minutes.
  3. Stir in garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika (if using), salt, and pepper.
  4. Add chicken broth, BBQ sauce, and soy sauce; mix well.
  5. Return browned sausage to the pan and simmer covered on low heat for about 18–20 minutes until rice is tender.
  6. Let rest covered for an additional 5 minutes before fluffing with a fork.
