  • 6 cups apples (about 6 medium, peeled, cored, and sliced)
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 pastry for double pie crust
  • 23 tablespoons butter (cut into small pieces)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F.
  2. Line a 9-inch pie plate with the bottom crust.
  3. In a bowl, mix together sliced apples, sugar, flour, cinnamon, salt, nutmeg, and lemon juice.
  4. Spoon the apple mixture into the prepared crust and dot with butter.
  5. Roll out the second pie crust and place it on top of the filling; seal the edges.
  6. Cut slits in the top crust for ventilation.
  7. Brush with milk or dairy-free alternative for color and sprinkle sugar on top.
  8. Bake at 425°F for 15 minutes, then lower temperature to 375°F and bake for another 30 minutes until golden brown.
