  • 1 3/4 cups white flour
  • 1/4 cup dark cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil or melted coconut oil
  • 3/4 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1/4 cup chocolate chips
  • 4 oz cream cheese (at room temperature)
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 tbsp instant active dry yeast
  • 1/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 23 tbsp sugar (for filling)
  • pinch of salt (for frosting)

Instructions

  1. In a large nonstick pot, heat milk, oil, and sugar to about 120F. Sprinkle in yeast and let sit until activated.
  2. Mix in flour and cocoa powder; cover and let rise for about an hour.
  3. Add salt, baking powder, and more flour as needed to form a soft dough; knead briefly.
  4. Roll out the dough into a rectangle, spread warmed peanut butter over it, sprinkle with sugar and chocolate chips, then roll tightly.
  5. Cut into slices and place in a greased pan; let rise again for about an hour.
  6. Preheat oven to 375F and bake for 15–18 minutes until cooked through.
  7. For frosting: beat cream cheese and butter until smooth; add powdered sugar and beat until fluffy.
  8. Cool rolls slightly before frosting generously.
