  • 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 tsp ground ginger
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 10 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 chai teabags
  • 8 oz cream cheese
  • 1 1/2 tsp ground allspice
  • 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1 tsp ground cardamom
  • 1/4 tsp ground cloves
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 2 cups powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a bowl, combine flour, spices, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Cream together softened butter and sugars until light and fluffy; add eggs one at a time along with vanilla.
  4. Alternate adding dry ingredients and buttermilk mixed with steeped chai tea until just combined.
  5. Pour batter into prepared pans and bake for 30-38 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Cool cakes completely before soaking them with a mixture of steeped chai tea, condensed milk, and vanilla.
  7. For the frosting, beat melted brown butter with cream cheese and powdered sugar; add milk until smooth.
  8. Assemble the cake by frosting between layers and on top.
