Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • ½ cup water
  • ¼ teaspoon kosher salt
  • ¾ cup heavy cream
  • 1 tablespoon cold unsalted butter
  • 6 medium apples (washed and sliced)
  • 6 oz. dark chocolate chips (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon oil (for melting chocolate)
  • ½ cup chopped nuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine granulated sugar and water. Stir until dissolved, then allow to boil until it reaches a golden amber color (about 8-10 minutes). Keep an eye on it to prevent burning.
  2. Carefully add salt, heavy cream, and cold butter into the caramel, stirring continuously until smooth and creamy.
  3. For an optional indulgence, melt dark chocolate chips mixed with oil in the microwave in short bursts until smooth.
  4. Dip apple slices into warm caramel, allowing excess to drip off. Place on parchment-lined tray; drizzle with melted chocolate and sprinkle with nuts if desired.
  5. Let cool until set before serving.
