  • 1 tsp cloves
  • 140 g unsalted butter (room temp)
  • 100 g neutral oil
  • 283 g whole milk (room temp)
  • 2 eggs (room temp)
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 227 g unsalted butter (room temp)
  • 12 oz cream cheese (cold)
  • 340 g powdered sugar (sifted)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two round cake pans.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, dark brown sugar, baking powder, salt, and spices.
  3. In another bowl, combine softened butter, oil, milk, eggs, and vanilla until smooth.
  4. Gradually mix wet ingredients into dry ingredients until just combined.
  5. Divide batter between prepared pans and bake for 35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. For the frosting, whip together room temperature butter and cold cream cheese; gradually add powdered sugar until creamy.
  7. Once cooled, layer the cake with frosting in between and on top.
