  • 9 tbsp unsalted butter (for caramel sauce)
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar (for caramel sauce)
  • 1 cup heavy cream (for caramel sauce)
  • 1 1/2 tsp vanilla (for caramel sauce)
  • 1/4 tsp salt (for caramel sauce)
  • 8 oz cream cheese, cold (for frosting)
  • 2 cups powdered sugar (for frosting)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the brown butter by melting unsalted butter in a saucepan over medium heat until golden brown.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine browned butter with granulated sugar and brown sugar. Beat in eggs one at a time, then add vanilla and buttermilk.
  4. Gradually fold dry ingredients into wet mixture until just combined.
  5. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Pour batter into prepared pans and bake for about 36 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
